Flash based website for London based sculptor Stephanie Carlton Smith. This project was geared towards being a visual rather than technological marvel, so it was a much appreciated opportunity to have some fun and see just how much was possible.
Personally, I'm not one of Flash's biggest advocates, I can see exactly why Jakob Nielsen said "99% of Flash on the web is bad" (though I'd have to disagree with him on a number of his other opinions), but it's all down to the context, and after discussion with Stephanie about what she wanted from her website, we agreed Flash was the way to go, even at the expense of the accessibility and usability offered by conventional HTML based web pages.
In the end though, the medium worked perfectly for the site and impression Stephanie wanted to give of her work. Subtle gradients and mouse tracking served to accentuate the work on show on the site without being overly intrusive, and extend the reach far beyond the photos, into a complementary user experience.
